Born June 5, 1962, in Millville, New Jersey, Margaret entered into the large family of Hank and Judith Witthohn. Her father’s career required their family relocate many times during her childhood, so Margaret learned to adapt and appreciate a variety of people and environments at an early age. She enjoyed the ocean and camping in Maine, waterskiing and snowmobiling in upstate New York, and played fast pitch softball and snow skiing in West Virginia.

After graduating high school, Margaret studied chemistry at West Virginia University in Morgantown. Her great experiences there with friends were memorable, but she discovered her love of nursing and transferred to University of Charleston in Charleston, WV, and graduated in 1984. Her next great achievement was realized when her son Michael was born in late 1985. More change and travel took Margaret and her family to northern Virginia where she decided to go into Emergency Nursing. Working at a Level 2 trauma center outside of Washington, D.C. was a time of tremendous personal and professional growth. Dealing with unimaginable tragedies and diverse cultures, Margaret gained new perspectives on life and people. In 1988, she was overjoyed when her second son, Chase, was born.

In 1991, Margaret joined the team at the Charleston Area Medical Center, a Level 1 Trauma Center. It wasn’t long before she joined the flight crew of HealthNet II Aeromedical Services and faced some of the most devastating medical challenges in life. Through these incredible life and death patient experiences, Margaret began to appreciate the idea of ‘living.’ As a single mother of two, Margaret ventured out to create a life of living without the fear of failing.

Margaret met the man of her dreams and partner for life, Steve Bobonich. They married in 1996 and moved to Ohio where they both launched into new career adventures. In pursuit of her Master’s Degree, Margaret attended the Francis Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University, specializing as a Family Nurse Practitioner. It didn’t take long to realize she had found her niche in nursing.

Encouraged by her father and mentor, Margaret had achieved her dream and graduated in December 1999. It was a bittersweet time because of the sudden and tragic loss of her father to pancreatic cancer. It was a grief unequalled by any experience in her life.
As a nurse practitioner, Margaret began working two days a week at a free medical clinic in northeast Ohio. Still driven by the ideals of her father, she decided to focus her energy on family and people who suffered without medical care, something her father passed on to her. Margaret would later realize that his love of adventure had also been handed down to his daughter. That same year, Margaret joined a small family practice in rural Ohio and discovered the true value of primary care in America. While many patients speak of their appreciation for her compassion and professionalism, it is Margaret who is grateful to the patients who enriched her life.

Margaret credits her wonderful husband, family and friends with the support to pursue her dreams in life. Strength and determination are important, but the love of family and friends make your achievements meaningful.

Margaret continues her career as a dermatologic nurse practitioner in northeast Ohio. Of course, the future holds more adventure for Margaret as she responds to requests for appearances across America. Engagements include presentations to colleges and universities, professional organizations, and women’s groups. Margaret inspires listeners to actively choose “living” by focusing on life choices for health and happiness. She has also committed to partner with the government of Guatemala and health agencies to provide the much needed medical care to impoverished villages devastated by mudslides from Tropical Storm Stan.

But it’s not all work. Margaret will be teaming up with a first class travel agency specializing in adventure tours to Central America. She will return to Guatemala and other destinations with tour groups to share her excitement for the beautiful land and culture of the region.
